Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple, Auckland

One of the best getaways for me is travelling with my DSLR whenever I can. Here is some pictures taken last weekend. Some of the pictures have got a fairly good response from some photography communities.

Photo taken at: Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple, Auckland

A bit about it (from website):

The Fo Guang Shan temple is a large temple and community centre of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist movement in the East Tamaki/Flat Bush suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. It is the largest Buddhist temple in the country. The temple and complex were built over seven years at a cost NZ$ 20 million. It was designed in the architectural style of the Tang Dynasty. The temple also includes a large Buddha statue and a two-tonne bell.

Fo Guang Shan temple opened it door's to the public in 2007. Fo Guang Shan is a Chinese Buddhist monastic order and a new religious movement out of Taiwan. It aims to modernise Chinese Buddhism and is known to use technology with the latest equipment. It can also be called as a faith-based organisation - the aim of whom is to fill what is seen as a moral vacuum left by attacks on traditional values over the past century. One of the main aim is to change the Chinese society by working with the government and not against it.

I of course did not photograph the inside as per rules but i was a great evening spent and monasteries always fascinates me. By default, I get reminded of Sikkim - maybe as I have spent so much time there.

Did not really get out on that day to create this journal, but thought of putting it together a bit.

Till the next one.
